Baldi Calvianca is a DJ, musician, and producer who has become a fixed part of Jakarta's independent music scene. He started as a bedroom producer with Strange Fruit, then moved toward left-field dance music, somewhere between electronic and psychedelic, hard to place in a way that feels intentional.

The Atmosphere

The project started as portraiture and became something else. Film and digital, both. Printing and then deconstructing the prints, each pass through the process adding grain, contrast, a slight compression that comes from handling an image one more time than necessary. The early frames are close and direct: a face, a gesture, a pose. Further in, the subject starts to dissolve, into motion blur, into abstraction, into light pushed until the photograph is more about darkness than the person inside it. His world, after his image has come apart.
